Sinopse: Paranoid Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper of Burpelson Air Force Base, he believing that fluoridation of the American water supply is a Soviet plot to poison the U.S. populace, is able to deploy through a back door mechanism a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union without the knowledge of his superiors, including the Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Buck Turgidson, and President Merkin Muffley. Only Ripper knows the code to recall the B-52 bombers and he has shut down communication in and out of Burpelson as a measure to protect this attack. Ripper's executive officer, RAF Group Captain Lionel Mandrake (on exchange from Britain), who is being held at Burpelson by Ripper, believes he knows the recall codes if he can only get a message to the outside world. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (Dr. Fantástico), ou apenas Dr. Strangelove, é uma comédia de humor negro dirigida por Stanley Kubrick, com Peter Sellers e George C. Scott nos papeis principais, além das atuações de Sterling Hayden, Keenan Wynn, Slim Pickens e Tracy Reed. Baseado no romance Red Alert (também conhecido como Two Hours to Doom), um thriller da Guerra Fria de Peter George, o filme satirizou a tensão nuclear vivida pelo mundo à época.

A trama do filme mostra um general transtornado da Força Aérea Americana que ordena um primeiro ataque nuclear contra a União Soviética, e segue o Presidente dos Estados Unidos, seus assessores, os Chefes do Estado-Maior Conjunto e um oficial da Força Aérea Real Britânica, na medida em que tentam interromper os bombardeios a tempo de evitar um apocalipse nuclear, bem como a tripulação do B-52 que tenta cumprir sua missão.

A Biblioteca do Congresso dos Estados Unidos considerou o filme "culturalmente significativo" em 1989, e o escolheu para ser preservado no Registro Nacional de Filmes. Foi classificado como o terceiro filme na lista AFI's 100 Years…100 Laughs, que mostra os 100 principais filmes de comédia dos Estados Unidos de acordo com o American Film Institute.
